Your reading list overlaps a lot with mine, especially your top picks this year (your book was one my favorites from last year), so I am definitely adding all the ones I haven't read to my list! (I am actually about halfway through Happy Land right now and loving it!)

How to Tell When You Will Die was probably my favorite book from last year, and I am reading it again this year with one of my book clubs (LGBTQ+ Book Club at Charis). Relinquished is definitely one of my most cited books in conversation—to think that they are still stealing Indigenous babies for white families, I get so angry every time I think about it! I don't know what there is to say about One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This, but it put into words so much of what I have been thinking and saying for too long (and the title is now my favorite protest sign).

Last year, my partner and I read all of Octavia Butler's novels (and whatever short stories we could find), so we have been waiting for Positive Obsession all year, and it certainly did not disappoint!

I really like that you keep track and share some of the demographics of the authors you are reading; I have never met anyone else who did that! I started doing it mostly so I can making my reading list as diverse as possible, but you have inspired me to share some of the key stats. I have also started recording where fiction books take place; I love history, and historical fiction is one of my favorite ways to learn about other histories we barely get a whiff of in the US (so many civil wars and genocides that don't even make it into college history classes). I am new to substack, and mostly just a lurker for now, but you can see my reading stats, lists, and charts if you are interested - https://rollingmeadow.jamiepantazi.com/books
